In correspondence with a colleague this week, I was seeking information on how to effectively integrate chrisitian practices into the business environment. The first consideration was to what extent the actions of business are matters of the Kingdom. However, in almost all respects I was able to derive a lesson to be learned or a command to be followed from the scriptures. The particular topic this week was developing leaders to be effective in formulation and execution of strategy. I came across the works of John Maxwell. One reference that is particularly helpful is the Leadership Bible in which Mr. Maxwell is able to draw on scriptural refernces for effective leadership strategies. A second topic this week was in the crafting of approaches to improve health care patient safety (from interactions with Dan Ford). In this latter case, a bible study from a year ago called Peacemakers (Ken Sande) turned out to be highly relevant as a means to more directly deal with the inevitable conflicts that arise between patients (and their families) and care givers when an error in medical care has occurred.
Delightlful to continue to find that in these applications the Word is instructive in practice.
